I’m becoming more and more productive, but also more panicky to the prospect of…INTERVIEWS D: i’m really terrible with meeting new people, but ESPECIALLY people who are much older than me. The other day at my volunteer/work, my boss’s sisters came to help plan their parent’s 50th anniversary, and they invited me to eat some Filipino food. I can’t turn down food (even tho I already ate lunch lol), so i spent a half hour trying a bit of each and sitting there awkwardly half listening half staring at nothing because i have nothing to say. Then i finally found a place to leave and I offered to take their plates, which i guess they’re not used to from a STRANGER and it was awk. 

uh anyway, here’s some things i’ve been working on as studies and stuff

i’m still on indefinite hiatus, but i suddenly started drawing sketches of a humanoid lady rainicorn i wanted to share

reduction drawing!! yayyy~~~

slap on a flat color whatever color, take your eraser (choose one with pen pressure) then chip away at the colors. bottom one is an example of adding a color underneath instead of white, which I think is a better indication of light and dark. I added that yellow and oops the values were too close to each other. 

i love the reduction method. it’s a way to do an underpainting for oils, and there are some artists who do reduction drawings (and some very intense ones geez).

this is my favorite, and pretty much everyone’s, favorite painting so far

it’s also one where i spent a lot of time rendering the outside and just went really loose with the insides

i think it’s also compositionally my strongest, and I like the 4 canvases thing, but one girl in my class didn’t and I understand why (she thought it’d be stronger as 1 painting, or if the panels were separated, but I did it as a budget thing—I’ll play with it later)

I did it separately, aside from budget, to see how they would match if I painted each canvas separately. I lined up the edges of the cabinet, then painted the insides separately. 

i need to go back with photoshop bc the colors are dulled by the camera
